BLOCK Builders completed the 121,000 SF renovation of Delta Air Lines’ Flight Kitchen facility in East Boston, Massachusetts. The project comprised six phases: locker rooms, staff cafeteria, offices, sanitation stations, coolers and freezers, new hot kitchen with renovation of existing hot kitchen, cold kitchen and dispatch/security offices. The scope involved installing new dishwashers, relocating two existing ones, and installing a new cart washer. Challenges included discovering buried fuel tanks directly under the building, working within an occupied space and coordinating daily security needs. To minimize disruption to operations, construction zones were adjusted regularly. Delivered in phases to maintain full operations, the renovated facility enhances efficiency and supports high-volume airline service needs.
